TALKING HEADS
Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads presents three memorable characters searching for meaning and recognition in very different circumstances. In Her Big Chance, aspiring actress Lesley proudly recounts a film role, unaware of the exploitation behind her apparent success. In A Chip in the Sugar, Graham’s close relationship with his mother is threatened when an old admirer reappears, fuelling his anxieties and blurred perceptions. In A Bed Among the Lentils, vicar’s wife Susan struggles with loneliness, alcoholism and the pressures of parish life, finding unexpected comfort elsewhere. Together, the monologues blend humour and pathos to explore loneliness, vulnerability and self-deception.
