‘ANYTHING GOES’ is announced as EVOKE’s 2018 10th Anniversary Musical

It’s the tops and Cole Porter’s Anything Goes is one of the greatest American musicals, a masterpiece of verbal and musical flippancy and is set to take centre stage at Beau Sejour Theatre in November 2018 as part of EVOKE Productions tenth anniversary celebrations.

‘The original book was a collaborative effort by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse, heavily revised by the team of Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse’, explains Chris Bougourd, Artistic Director.

The story concerns the madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. We are introduced to Billy Crocker a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Meanwhile nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Moonface Martin aid Billy in his quest to win Hope.

Chris adds, ‘The complexity of Cole Porter’s best work sets him somewhat apart from other great songwriters. A Porter song is a luxury item expensively made and extravagantly rhymed. Porter created a world. It was a between-the-wars realm of drop-dead chic.’

The musical introduced such songs as Anything Goes, You’re the Top, Blow Gabriel Blow, Friendship and I Get a Kick Out of You.

Since its 1934 debut at the Neil Simon Theatre on Broadway, the musical has been revived several times most notably on New York’s Broadway and London’s West End.

The production, which has Specsavers as its sole sponsor, will open on Monday 12 November and run until Saturday 17 November 2018.

Marilyn Pugh is once again Musical Director and Natalie Cutts-Watson will choreograph the show.

The staging promises to be innovative, encompassing highly technical lighting and effects, complimented by a live on stage orchestra.
