Chris Bougourd Artistic Director

A very highly experienced and accomplished actor and director, with a detailed knowledge of all aspects of theatre, but confesses to having a real passion for lighting/set design and musicals.

Chris feels very fortunate to have worked on such a wide-ranging variety of different playwrights works and enjoys, in particular, the style and technique of Alan Ayckbourn, Ray Cooney and Harold Pinter.

If Chris was forced to single out a favourite script he has directed, his particular choice would probably be the highly composite and structured, The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter. “A director’s dream, simply twenty four carat gold”, as Chris would describe it.

As a director, Chris has been responsible for 100 productions, including: Carousel, Guernsey Gang Show (x7), Guys and Dolls, CHESS, Godspell, The Ovation Collection, EVITA, The Sound of Music, Sunset Boulevard, Summer Holiday, Whistle Down the Wind and Anything Goes.

Favourite leading roles include John O’ Brien in The Fifteen Streets by Catherine Cookson, the title role of Nicholas Nickleby in the three-part stage adaptation of the classic Dickens novel, the role of Wayne Hudson in the black comedy Popcorn by the hugely successful Ben Elton, the part of Lennie, in the acclaimed Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the character Serge in the Yasmina Reza award winning comedy ART, Rick in the new David Tristram comedy, Sex, Drugs & Rick ‘n’ Noel, Richard Willey in the hilarious Ray Cooney smash hit West End comedy Out of Order, and Dr David Mortimore in the Ray Cooney smash hit farce It Runs in the Family.
